What’s Tapping and Why Should Your Skeptical Self Try It?
Ever been so stressed you started to drum your fingers on your desk? Congratulations, you’re halfway to tapping! EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is basically acupuncture’s cool cousin who doesn’t need needles. You literally tap on specific points on your face and body while talking about what’s bugging you.
Sounds weird? Totally. Works anyway? Yep.
Tapping is my go-to for trauma, grief, anger, self-loathing, and more. When I’m too emotional to meditate, tapping almost instantly calms my nervous system. The most difficult part? Remembering to turn to tapping when I’m in meltdown mode.
Here’s the deal: When you’re stressed, anxious, or your ADHD brain is doing its best pinball machine impression, your body’s alarm system (hello, amygdala!) goes into overdrive. Tapping tells your nervous system “hey, chill out, we’re actually safe here” while letting you process what’s really going on.
Why Try It:
- It’s free (your fingers are already included!)
- You can do it anywhere (though maybe be subtle about face-tapping in public)
- Works fast (perfect for “I can’t even” moments)
- No perfect focus required (fidgety folks welcome)
- Science backs it up (yes, really – studies show it reduces stress hormones)
Think of it as a reset button for your overwhelm. No crystals required (though if you want to hold one while tapping, you do you).
